About Jogan Brewworks

Our Story

From a Veranda to a Can

Five chapters, one obsession. This is how a curious kid, an actuary's spreadsheets, a garage in lockdown, and a few very patient friends turned into Jogan Brewworks.

Chapter 1 — The Veranda: family gathered on a sunlit veranda

Chapter 1

The Veranda

The First Spark

Way before Jogan Brewworks and brewing dreams, there was a veranda. A sunny afternoon. A family full of stories. And a curious kid who kept leaning closer to an aroma.

I wasn't allowed to drink — but nobody said I couldn't smell it. Nana lifted the glass. I leaned closer. Malt. Hops. Mystery.

Something in that aroma whispered, "come back when you're older." I never really left.

Chapter 2 — The Ladder and the Bridge: working at a desk surrounded by actuarial books and a brewing journal

Chapter 2

The Ladder and the Bridge

I became an actuary because I liked solving problems. Then I started brewing beer and discovered entirely new ones: too bitter, too sweet, too much yeast.

Numbers were predictable. Beer was not. Yet somehow, after a long day of calculating risk, I came home and created more of it.

Apparently that's called a hobby.

Chapter 3 — The Seeker's Devotion: late-night brewing notes with London skyline in the background

Chapter 3

The Seeker's Devotion

The dream went underground, but never disappeared. Bath became home. Then London appeared. The train became routine. Spreadsheets by day, big dreams in between.

Then COVID arrived. The world stood still. We bought our first home, with a garage and a dream to fulfil. Two years later, the brewing began.

One small kit. One very determined plan.

Chapter 4 — The Accidental Lab Rats: friends gathered for a beer and barbecue taste test

Chapter 4

The Accidental Lab Rats

Beer and Barbecue

Every batch needed taste-testers, and our friends — bless them — never said no to a BBQ. "So... which one is the good one?" "Not a bug. It's a flavour note."

Bold. Interesting. Needs more hops. Surprisingly good. Let's brew again.

If this is science, sign us all up for a PhD in it.

Chapter 5 — The Reality Check: founder holding the first official can of Jogan Brewworks beer

Chapter 5

The Reality Check

From Practice to Pour

Turns out making the beer was the easy part. Explaining it to HMRC was harder. "So when do you start making money?" "Let's not ruin a good evening."

For two years I worried whether people would like the beer. Then you all bought some. Suddenly we had a whole new list of things to worry about — but those are good problems to have.

Every can, every pint, every shared glass means this dream has travelled a little further than our garage ever imagined. We took the leap. And so did you.

Thank you for being part of the first official batch of Jogan Brewworks — and every one since.
